I had my brain injury after a cycling accident in Spain, after being flown back to the UK for recovery and rehabilitation, I started to attend Headway Surrey’s resource centre. After a year of weekly visits in the centre my cognitive skills had developed so much that I felt able to try and get back into some kind of work.
I decided to take this opportunity and change my job and combine my passion and love of music with my desire with wanting to help young people. Through the community support that Headway Surrey offered with researching jobs, I was able to find a role as a youth worker.
Headway Surrey helped me write my CV and brush up on interview skills. With monthly visits from the community support team at Headway Surrey, I am able to get invaluable support with my career progression, they helped me work through an OU degree and help me understand all of the letters and forms about my benefits. They still help me with my paperwork and admin skills – but that may be more because I’m untidy than an effect of the brain injury!
