Volunteering
What our Volunteers say
I have been volunteering at Headway for over 10 years. I enjoy assisting the clients in the various activities and outings and look forward to a big game of pool at lunchtime.
Staff, clients and volunteers all contribute to the fun atmosphere.

I started volunteering at the Centre in 2017. Initially my reason for volunteering was the chance to give something back to the community but it quickly became something much more than that.
Thursdays are spent with the Centre staff and other volunteers helping members with, amongst other things, cognitive, executive and life skills.
It is so rewarding to see the progress of members improving their skills over the weeks far beyond what might have been expected. This is all done in a caring environment where learning is made fun and enjoyable.

Just Ask...
What can I do?
Volunteering for Headway Surrey can be a one-off, occasional or a regular role and it can involve anything from making tea, sweeping the garden, making telephone enquiries, data entry, helping one of our adults to relearn lost skills, playing board games or supporting the staff with administration and fundraising. Whatever your skills and experience, your time commitments - we can hopefully find you a role to make a difference to others.
How much time do I need?
Some of our volunteers come in once a year, once a month, some more regularly for 2 hours a week, or a whole day. Some may just volunteer in the school holidays or term time - you can spend as much or as little time as you like. All our volunteers are greatly valued and being a small, local organisation you can see the immediate results and benefits of your volunteering.
Do I get any training?
Guidelines, information and support will be given to all volunteers - along with specialist training where appropriate. We have a small volunteer library of books, that you may use and downloadable booklets on all manner of brain injury issues, which explain everything you may need to know. Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience, giving you the opportunity to make new friends and gain new skills. It will definitely widen your horizon and really help us to make a difference.
How can I start Volunteering?
If you feel you can make a difference please contact us for an informal chat. Speak to our Office Manager, Claire, claire.moore@headwaysurrey.org Telephone: 01483 454433. We may not have a vacancy at the time you enquire however, your details can be held until there is an opportunity and you can always check back on our website. We can offer some work experience volunteering opportunities from time to time, unfortunately we do not have the resources to be able to offer placements. We prefer volunteers to be over 18, but in some instances, 16-17 will be considered. DBS and references will be required.
